Pick your grind
Grind size controls how fast water pulls flavour out of the coffee. Too coarse and the cup is thin; too fine and it turns bitter.
- Coarse: French press, cold brew
- Medium: pour-over, V60, drip machines
- Medium-fine: Aeropress
- Fine: moka pot, espresso
- Filter grind: South Indian steel filter
How long ground coffee stays good
Ground coffee loses aroma faster than whole beans because more surface area meets air. Buy 250g at a time rather than 1kg unless you drink several cups a day, keep the pouch sealed, and finish within three to four weeks of opening.
Why ground costs a little more
Grinding is a separate run on the mill with its own cleaning and losses between batches, so ground packs carry a small premium over whole beans. If you drink coffee daily, a ₹2,000 hand grinder pays for itself and gives a better cup.
