The Method
| # | Detail |
|---|---|
| 01 | Pre-heat waterFill the bottom chamber with hot water up to (but not over) the safety valve. Pre-heated water prevents the metallic taste of over-roasted brewing. |
| 02 | Fill basket levelAdd 18g of fine-ground coffee to the funnel. Level it off - do not tamp. Wipe excess from the rim. |
| 03 | AssembleScrew the top chamber on tightly. Use a cloth - the base is hot. |
| 04 | Brew on low heatPlace on a low-medium flame with the lid open. In 3–4 minutes, coffee will rise into the top chamber. |
| 05 | Pull off earlyWhen you hear a gurgling sound and see a honey-like stream turn pale, remove from heat immediately. Wrap the base in a cold cloth to stop extraction. |
Pro Tips
Dial it in
- 01
Low heat is the secret - high heat scalds the coffee and ruins the cup.
- 02
Never let the coffee gurgle for long - it tastes burnt within seconds.
- 03
Rinse with water only, never soap. The seasoned aluminium adds character.
